Concrete Floor and Slab Cost Calculator
Price a concrete slab laid by a crew. Type the size in feet or metres. Then add a finish, and compare with ready-mix prices.
Measure the area

Prices change from city to city. For a driveway or garage slab, check your local building rules or ask a builder or engineer.
Prices we used

Quick answers
- Slab per sq ft, laid
- About $12.50, the middle of 5 contractors. Their prices run $9–$20. The middle low is $10 and the middle high $15.
- Per square metre
- About $134.55 a m², for a plain broom finish.
- Garage slab
- $26–$34 a sq ft, from only 2 quote services. These slabs are thicker.
- Ready-mix per m³
- $255.50 for 25 MPa, the middle of 4 lists in Ontario and Calgary. About $243 in Quebec and Eastern Ontario, from only 3 lists.
- 16 × 16 ft slab
- About $3,200, laid. The prices we found give $2,304–$5,120.
How to work it out
- Measure the slab's length and width in feet, and multiply them.
- Multiply by the price per sq ft. Our middle is $12.50.
- Add any extra finish, per sq ft, on top.
- If old concrete must come out first, add that too.
16 × 16 = 256 sq ft
256 × $12.50 = $3,200
With exposed aggregate: $3,200 + 256 × $5 = $4,480
What a plain slab costs, by size
These sizes use the middle price of $12.50 a sq ft.
| Slab | Sq ft | Middle | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8 × 8 ft | 64 | $800 | $576–$1,280 |
| 10 × 12 ft | 120 | $1,500 | $1,080–$2,400 |
| 16 × 16 ft | 256 | $3,200 | $2,304–$5,120 |
| 20 × 20 ft | 400 | $5,000 | $3,600–$8,000 |
| 30 × 40 ft | 1,200 | $15,000 | $10,800–$24,000 |
5 contractors in Ontario, Alberta and BC. The range runs from the lowest to the highest price any of them gave. Typical prices, not quotes.
Small jobs can cost more. One Ontario contractor charges at least $5,500, which buys about 440 sq ft at our middle price.
By province (one guide)
Green Building Canada, a third-party guide, gives these ranges for a concrete driveway. We found no contractor prices for Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan or the Atlantic provinces.
| Area | Range |
|---|---|
| Canada | $10–$17 |
| Ontario | $9–$19 |
| Greater Toronto Area | $12–$20 |
| British Columbia | $10–$22 |
| Alberta | $8–$17 |
| Quebec | $8.50–$18 |
| Atlantic provinces | $7.50–$16 |
Garage slabs and foundations
A garage slab costs about 2 to 3 times as much as a patio. The quote services price thicker slabs, about 6 in or 15–20 cm, with forms. Here are their examples.
| Quote service | Size | Price | Per sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ontario and Quebec site, 2024 | 24 × 24 ft | $16,612 | $26–$31; this one $28.84 |
| Quebec site, 2026 | 16 × 24 ft | $11,330–$12,875 | $29.51–$33.53 |
The 24 × 24 ft price usually includes digging. A pump costs $1,030 more. The other leaves out digging. Only 2 sources, so treat them as rough.
One Ontario seller of foam block forms gives $15–$25 per sq ft of wall for a poured foundation. It puts footings for a house at $6,000–$15,000. That is one source only.
Finishes and removal
A fancy finish adds to the plain price. Here is what each adds, for the 16 × 16 ft slab.
| Extra | Per sq ft | 256 sq ft |
|---|---|---|
| Stamped | $7–$10 | $1,792–$2,560 |
| Exposed aggregate | $4–$6 | $1,024–$1,536 |
| Colour (one guide only) | $3–$6 | $768–$1,536 |
| Take out old concrete (2 firms) | $2–$5 | $512–$1,280 |
Stamped and exposed aggregate: a Calgary contractor, with a third-party guide that agrees.
For a driveway replacement, add the removal price to the new slab. Some quotes already include removal, so ask. Choosing between asphalt and concrete for a driveway? Price asphalt with the asphalt cost calculator.
Ready-mix by region, and doing it yourself
Plants sell ready-mix by the m³. Driveways and garage floors use 32 MPa, and in Ontario so do all outdoor slabs. So both prices are shown.
| Area | 25 MPa | 32 MPa |
|---|---|---|
| Toronto area (CBM) | $245 | $273 |
| Toronto area (Dufferin) | $266 | $295 |
| Western Ontario (CBM) | $279 | $305 (garage mix) |
| Quebec and Eastern Ontario (middle of 3) | $243 | $262 |
| Calgary (Omega; mix not given) | $200–$280 | – |
Before tax, except Marina's page in the Quebec middle, which doesn't say. We found no plant price list for BC, Manitoba, Saskatchewan or the Atlantic provinces.
Small loads pay a fee per trip. In Quebec, Bernier charges $265 for 1–2 m³. Winter fees run $15–$22 per m³.
Doing it yourself
Take the 16 × 16 ft slab, 4 in thick. At the two Toronto 32 MPa prices, a truck costs about $1,081–$1,242, with each plant's fees. In 188 bags of 30 kg, it is $1,314.
A crew charges about $3,200. Patriarch says its price covers the base, the steel and the finish. The concrete calculator compares bags and trucks for your size.
